Why briquettes

Cheaper to burn, and far less to clear out afterwards

A briquette is sawdust and wood scrap pressed hard enough that the wood's own lignin binds it. Nothing is added, and nothing needs to be.

▲

More heat per kilogram

Denser and drier than firewood, so a boiler reaches temperature on less fuel and holds it for longer between charges.

●

Under five per cent ash

The grate is cleared on a Sunday rather than midweek, and there is far less to cart away at the end of it.

▣

Stacks and stores

Uniform, dry and bagged at 50 kg. It does not rot, it does not attract insects, and it takes up less room than loose wood.

▢

Made from waste

The raw material is what a sawmill sweeps up. Burning it releases only the carbon the tree took in.

⇆

A price that holds

Firewood swings with the season and the weather. Our input does not, so a quoted rate stays a quoted rate.

⚑

Delivered locally

Ranipet, Vellore, Arcot and Chennai, by the lorry load or by the bag, from stock we hold at Sipcot.

The grades

Four kinds, and what each one is for

They are not interchangeable. What suits a bakery oven will not suit a furnace that runs for a week, and the cheapest is not always the one that costs least to fire.

Biomass

Pressed from
Agricultural and forestry residue, pressed without binder.
Suited to
General heating and process steam.

Sawdust

Pressed from
Kiln-dry sawmill sawdust, bound by the wood's own lignin.
Suited to
Boilers and kilns, the cheapest way to raise steam.

Charcoal

Pressed from
Carbonised before pressing, so it burns without smoke.
Suited to
Cooking and heating where smoke is not acceptable.

Industrial grade

Pressed from
Denser, with a hole through the centre to draw air.
Suited to
Boilers and furnaces fired once and left to run.
